Cross-Training—Jump Rope
Boxers aren’t the only ones who can benefit from using a jump rope. Runners can use a jump rope to improve their cardiorespiratory fitness and it truly does not take up much space to use.
A few other benefits to using a jump rope are:
- Increasing the elasticity and resiliency of lower leg muscles, leading to a reduced risk of lower leg injuries.
- Helps improve coordination
- cognitive function
- speed
- agility
- power
- endurance
- balance
- and it is portable and can be used just about anywhere!
Cross training with a jump rope is a great way to train because jumping rope is a weight-bearing activity but it provides far less impact on your muscles and joints than when running.
Try it out! Grab a jump rope and add in 20-30 seconds of fast jump roping to your interval workouts! You will bring your heart rate up and help condition yourself to become a better runner.
