Cross-Training—Jump Rope

Boxers aren’t the only ones who can benefit from using a jump rope. Runners can use a jump rope to improve their cardiorespiratory fitness and it truly does not take up much space to use.

A few other benefits to using a jump rope are:

  1. Increasing the elasticity and resiliency of lower leg muscles, leading to a reduced risk of lower leg injuries.
  2. Helps improve coordination
  3. cognitive function
  4. speed
  5. agility
  6. power
  7. endurance
  8. balance
  9. and it is portable and can be used just about anywhere!

Cross training with a jump rope is a great way to train because jumping rope is a weight-bearing activity but it provides far less impact on your muscles and joints than when running.

Try it out! Grab a jump rope and add in 20-30 seconds of fast jump roping to your interval workouts! You will bring your heart rate up and help condition yourself to become a better runner.
